Hello fellow fishes...
My name is Patrick Spain (pat) and although I have been a member of this
list for some 3 weeks now...I have yet to be an active participant in any
discussion. What prompted me to write this post was, much to my surprise,
not something directly JD related. (incidently Salinger has been my
favorite author and in my life and opinion, the author whom has mattered the
most since my freshman year of highschool...I am currently a sophmore at
Suffolk U in Boston studying Marine Biology) The reason I write this is not
to bore you all with a life story of myself, I know I find it interesting
but I also realize how few others will...but I write beacause I am, as I
have gathered that some of you are, a lover and creator of short stories.
My favorite of my writings thus far has been, as Salinger would say, "a
short short story" at only 3-4 pages depending on reasonable format. Now,
onto the alterior motive...it contains in my opinion, an obvious aliteration
to "the little prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (mentioned in a recent
post about his commemoration on a new 50 franc bill) but so far everyone who
has read my story has missed the refernece and thus, missed the entire point
of the story. I was wondering if anyone in the pond, or ocean if your of
the buddhist persuasion as I am (much to the dismay of my Roman Catholic
grandparents), would be willing to give me their opinion of the story and
the reference. I would greatly appreciate it and in return, would be very
happy to read any work from the fish pond. If not, I understand this is not
the purpose of the group, thanks for allowing me to introduce myself. I do
have many many stories relating to and thoughts on the literary Bodhivista,
Salinger. Thanks again,
-pat <")))>< (my only e-trick...no smily's but one elongated
fish...almost banana like...
