The Situation: visiting the East Village for the first time as a seventeen
year old, you are curious about the famous New York University and the
people who go there. However, while looking around St. Marks Place it's
nearly impossible for you to differentiate the people.

You ask the Bootlegger next to Kim's Underground to play a Talking Heads
bootleg. While a '70s CBGB's live version of "Artists Only" comes on,
blaring through the streets, a young man with thick black rimmed glasses
comes up and says, "ah, Talking Heads. I've seen 'Stop Making Sense' three
times this year."

You look at his hand and he is carrying a cup of coffee from Panya and the
smell of soy reaches your nostrils.

You look at his jeans and see a curled-up copy of Huxley in his back-pocket.

Ask him: "Would you like to get a sparkling spring water from the Angelika
Cafe?"

"Yes," he says, "perhaps we can catch the next showing of 'Ghost Dog'", at
which point he begins to tell you about the film career of Roberto Benigni...

I think you've accomplished your goal.

The moral: you may *never* realize it, but you *don't* want to go to NYU...
