Dear Laughing Man,
I would like to thank you for posting that story, but I am not
sure if I can, since at this point I am still wishing that I had
never read it. Yes, I see myself on those blue innocent mornings,
and they are bluer with the realization that the remorseless turning
of the earth might always be ready to change hopeful expectations
into final memories. Still, some stories are only readable when
written in the past, not future, tense. Some possibilities are
not ponderable and only reveal their interpretation when viewed in the
rear-view mirror, and this story puts them uncomfortably in front of me.
As for your subsequent tip of the hat in my direction (thank you), I
take (or mistake) it as an appreciation of your muse's ability to
be polite - I think any other attempt to make a comparison would
demand that you apologize to her.
keep laughing,
Mattis
