Today I realized that the sophomores are starting F+Z. So, I had an idea. I
would sit in on the class, since I had 4th period free and everything. And
since I love the teacher. So I went, and she didn't have a problem with it,
so I sat there and listened to her read bananafish to us, just like she did
before we started it two years ago. I didn't say anything, since I know too
much, maybe, but it was great to hear some first time people discussing it.
The first comment was a question about what all the feet and ankles meant,
from someone who pronounced Zooey, and Salinger wrong. They are at least
observant of some things. And what came was very interesting, actually. They
came to this idea that ankles are vulnerable (Achilles heel), and so being
able to trust your ankles to someone shows incredible trust. Also, when
Sybil and seymour snub the wave, the idea that maybe sybil sees seymour,
thinks he is a bananafish, and then he realizes that he may be one when she
says that. And one small note: guns have 6 barrels for 6 bananafish. I'm not
sure if I'll keep going, but I might a little, just to get some new
perspectives on things.
