Ah, the hubris of the disillusioned!
Boooo hooo...so I guess that means visiting his property is out of the
question. (Don't worry, I'm only joking.) And there's no hubris here...I
never said anything about getting a response. I'm just someone who wants
the letter not to be returned again (hell, he doesn't even have to read it
as long as it gets there). Just the idea that he would use it for kindling
is fine by me. Threatening letters from his lawyers might be interesting
though.

Ah, the hubris of the uninitiated!

I, too, remember finishing Catcher and wanting nothing more than to talk to
the author; unfortunately, you will have more luck getting a response from
Santa Claus than Salinger.

The closest anybody's come for about 30 years is get threatening letters
from his attorneys.
