I think that's also the best way to understand Dostoevsky, short of
learning
Russian. It's much harder, of course, to apply this method to the Brothers
Karamazov than to Rilke poems. I would suggest getting the
Pevear/Volokhonsky translation and reading primarily that, but keeping your
old one to compare any passages you particularly like or particularly
dislike or are particularly confused by or that are in any other way
especially striking.
