Right, Daniel, anyone who disagrees with you on this point not only
misunderstands, but is a Pharisee :). I would argue that when an
airplane is deliberately crashed into a building, its meaning changes
from its intended meaning (transportation) to the terrorist meaning
(lethal weapon) -- not only for the terrorists, but for the victims.

There's nothing wrong with identifying obvious plot elements, but if
that's all our reading strategies allow us to do, then we have a pretty
impoverished view of what literature can communicate. There's nothing
wrong with reading for the immediate pleasures offered by a text, but if
that's all people ever did with the Bible, for example, you probably
wouldn't be able to quote it meaningfully here and now.
