Salinger worked on Holden's character for something like 10 years. the
forerunners of holden kept changing, so i guess it would make sense
that salinger could completly change holden around(age, fighting in the
war, etc.). maybe he wanted to kill holden off, but changed his mind a
few years later and wanted to keep him alive and well and in a totally
different situation. i responded to an E that sounded like it was
insinuating holden died in WWII. whoever pointed out that holden in
TCITR didn't even fight in WWII was right. same name, different guy
maybe. ii dont' know
