>I hate you, Walt freakin' Whitman!

>Sorry, I just had to add that. No disrespect to one of your favorite
>authors, but out sophomore english teacher just COULD NOT shut up about
>how wonderful Walt Whitman was. If we didn't scream this to release our
>frustrations, we would've shot ourselves.

Sorry gang, no one's going to bash Walt without some defense.

Ahem.

Walt Whitman is probably the finest poet America has ever produced and he's
done more for the words you personally put on a page then you may ever
realize. To deny his stature only indicates your own failure to appreciate
true artistry. The only poet as necessary that the 20th century has to
offer is Allen Ginsberg who is also a giant. (I'd toss in Dylan, but I
thought I'd just stick with verse now that we've already had Dylan
Appreciation Fortnight)

It's not Walt Whitman you hate, it's your teacher. Are you familiar with
the concept of "projection"? Deal with your feelings for your teacher and
you will then be able to admire Whitman.
