Now that Seth Dellinger has yielded to the voice of conformity
& made his public recantation, one scene comes vividly to my mind.

When it was first put on in the Abbey Theatre, J.M. Synge's
Playboy of the Western World was felt to to be unforgiveably
demeaning & offensive to the plain people of Ireland. The Dubliners
of the day expressed their disapproval with a great outburst of
tututting, hissing & booing. One man leapt onto the stage &
	shook his fist at them:

`You've disgraced yourselves again,' shouted W.B.Yeats.

Well, Seth isn't James Millington & I'm no William Butler.

But there is something depressing in the sight of the frivolous
being made to toe the party line of the self-serious.
