I read once an exchange between James and his brother.  His brother said,
of Finnegans Wake, "But James, this is unreadable."  And replied James, "I
spent much of my life writing it.  Let them spend their lives reading it."

May be an urban legend, but it always makes me giggle.  Now off to make the
riverrun into my cup and down my throat....
