Hello Bananafish! I was trawling through the book section of a charity shop here in London last week on my lunch hour, where I came across the Armchair Esquire. 99 pence, and with the dust jacket still in good nick. Leafing through it back at work, I was astounded to see a Salinger story I had never heard of - This Sandwich has no Mayonnaise. I called my husband up in a great flap, exclaiming that I had "discovered" a lost Salinger story! I immediately decided to subscriber to Bananafish to find out about my great discovery. As it turns out, the story isn't lost - just unknown to me (and Iain Hamilton, evidently, cos he doesn't mention it in his abortive biography.) So that's why I'm here. A Salinger fan, but not all that knowledgeable. I'm an American, living here with English husband for the last nearly ten years. I work in the non profit sector, for the equivalent of the AIA. Recent favourite other writers in no particular order: Peter Ackroyd; Zola; Kate Atkinson (Behind the Scenes at the Museum); Orwell (Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier); Patrick Hamilton; 253 by Geoff Ryman; Irvine Welsh; Janice Galloway; Esther Freud; Collette. Favourite novel of recent years: London Fields by Martin Amis. Anyway, hello from London, and here's to many an interesting exchange.
