	Re: William Randolph Hearst's mistress:

It is not possible for opinions to be wrong; facts, however, are
another matter. Though this subject is veering wildly, I'd like to clear
up a point about Hearst and his mistress.

Marion Davies - ie, she of the Rosebud designation, was not
Hearst's secretary. She was an actress who had achieved a considerable
amount of fame before they met. She was a former Ziegfeld Follies girl.
Hence the Susan Alexander character in the film being portrayed as a bad
singer. Unfortunately, Welles did Davies a slight disservice in
scripting this portrayal, because Marion Davies was actually a gifted
light comedienne - she is now forever known as a bad and laughable
actress. Though Hearst did swamp her natural talents in terrible costume
dramas. And make no mistake, it was Hearst himself, especially through
his powerful columnist Louella Parsons, who tried to kill off Citizen
Kane.
