Howdy, all Banana Fiche!

I don't manage all the mailing list services here any more (there's a
department formed now that does it all), except for this particular list
and a couple of others. Without my knowledge -- or anyone else's, it
appears -- the group decided to do major surgery on the system in the
middle of the working day today.

The result was that the whole list system was out of service much of the
day today (16 April 1998, noon through 6 pm Eastern US time). If you
submitted anything to the list during the downtime, your mail may have
bounced back to you, or may have gone to Mars. If it bounced or never made
the list, please resubmit it, and it should go through properly now. Some
messages made it through cleanly; I'm hoping nobody experienced anything
bad.

I'm mortified only in that I tried hard to make this crazy service
reliable, so please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. The
peculiar consolation is that it adversely affected everyone who uses the
lists, not just us, though that is a strange consolation, I guess! These
days I can only claim responsibility for the lists I personally operate....

Cheers!
