I lost sonny's post but also guessed that the garfunkel allusion was "The
Inverted Forest" but don't feel comfortable beyond the verb guess...

I do feel comfortable encouraging readers to seek out salinger's
uncollected stories. They are available in their original magazine formats
and it's kosher to find and read them.  These 21 stories were illegally
collected in two volumes in l974, but as separate stories, I think they
offer better work than mr. salinger thinks. I believe you can get their
citations from mr. foskett's page.  I collected these stories for myself
in less than one week, but admit having ny libraries was helpful.  However
that was before you could get digitized copies via inter library loan...go
