I appreciate the party line on Blue Velvet. Mr. Lynch does, indeed, have a knack for peeling back shiny, happy facades. I also recognize that he has constructed adaptations; I just wouldn't want to be responsible for giving him the green light on, say, Winter of Our Discontent (No. 8 on my list). What I was looking for was a take on Lost Highway. That's what, if anything, I needed my hand held on. It seemed to me that Lynch was walking that fine line, er, plank towards disappearing entirely, as JDS feared of himself, "in (his) own methods, locutions, and mannerisms." You seemed like something of a buff, so I thought, and still think, you might have something interesting to say about LH. The Frenzy theft is cool, if you like Lynch and have at least a passing interest in Hitchcock, although Frenzy, itself, is forgettable. If you haven't rented it yet, Paul, I might just go ahead and buy Blue Velvet...

Paul - highly recommend you head directly to your nearest video shop and
rent `Blue Velvet'. You won't be disappointed. In fact, you'll probably
proceed straight on to `Twin Peaks' or at least `Lost Highway' (:
