I'd like to sign up for the Salinger Army that's quietly and confidently
mobilising in our midst! Here are my particulars, Sir:
My name's Miranda, and I'm a 20 year-old Administration Assistant. I eat my
bananafish in little papaya-garnished snatches at work. My nearest body of
water is the ubiquitous Indian Ocean, which you can read about in the novels
of Western Australian author Tim Winton. [Try his novel "Cloudstreet" for
starters. It has delish sentence (fragments) like, "The whole restless mob
of us on spread blankets in the dreamy briny sunshine skylarking and
chiacking about for one day, one clear, clean, sweet day in a good world in
the midst of our living." Sentences good enough to scrawl on paper and
hammer to your bathroom wall to ENHANCE your habitation.]
Yesterday there was a message on my household answering machine from an
Erudite Boy Named Tim, calmly thanking me for lending him Franny and Zooey,
which he calmly loved.
Good!
If there are any other Perthites on this list, I would love it if they could
step forward. Otherwise, regardless of geography, I thank you all for the
fragments of fish that get delivered to my bananaleaf each afternoon!
