My father went through a period where he would go home from work and watch The
Andy Griffith Show every afternoon during a lunch break, and he told me that he
would honest get depressed when the show ended and he thought of returning to
his life and his work.

He was born in 52, so I doubt he has too many memories or too much nastalgia
stemming from experiences pre-60s. I believe that it was simply an appealing
way of life to him (maybe he saw "important" things there that are missing now
or "unimportant" things that exist now that did not then) and he longed for it
out of his unsatisfaction for his own present-day life and experiences. It
became his ideal "escape" from the results of his life up to that point.

Luckily he's moved on and no longer feels he needs
something-other-than-what-I-have to be happy.
