I have a response to this, I know it, and it's something more substantial
than "Life's not a game, darn it all, it's not!"

I think that you're talking to the wrong people, Sean, because the more
well-off one is the more likely, I think, that he or she would agree with
you. But take your argument down to someone who's lost a child to a
kidnapper, or a father to a coal mine, or someone who has to scavenge for
food every day just to survive, and tell them that it's all just a game and
that they don't play it very well, and you might get off lucky with just
some spit in your eye.

You can play around all you want, but please leave me out.

Val:
"Well, there are at least one difference to me: in a game, you lose or
you win. I hope that in life, we have other options."

Indeed, you do have other options. In life as in games, you can win,
loose, draw, quit, no-show, or forfeit. You can even decide not to keep
score. You can be red-carded, disqualified, voted off the island, or
rained out. Games can go into overtime, extended innings, or in the case
of little league baseball, be called early if one team is blowing out
the other.

I hate to say it, Val, but I'm afraid there's no other viable
conclusion. Life is a game.
