That being said, I think the character of Holden is still rather tied to an
age. I'm not sure he would be a believable 30-year-old.

Only a few years ago I often moaned about "the ways of the world" and I
thought Holden was spot-on about phonies. Now, I occasionally wonder about
some of those "ways" but most of them don't really bother me; and while I
suppose I'm still not exactly fond of phonies, I've become much more
reluctant to file charges.

I see far fewer phonies today than three years ago and I think I've become
more perceptive, not less.
