Further to mine of the 14th ult. regarding the prevalence
of nuts on the Bananafish mailing list...
What's emerging with ever greater clarity is the predominant
diagnosis of manic depression. Very clear for quite a while now:
the way contributors swing between periods of compulsive,
hypomanic production, characterised by elated 'flight of ideas'
- & their alternating phases of curt, irritable, 'Rilkean' gloom.
What's even more interesting is the way - rather similar
to the synchronised menstruation of girls in the same
dorm - our cycles all seem increasingly to be chiming in step.
Which underlies, presumably, the current drought.
