will,

would you expand upon how buddy is an 'unrealiable
narrator.' i guess i gullibly accept that buddy is a
reliable narrator regarding the nature of seymour.
that he is salinger's mouthpiece regarding seymour's
true nature and worth and is a direct response to the
negative criticism salinger received re seymour. the
entire opening of the story is an attempted reply to
criticism carping about how could such an enlightened
wonderful guy commit suicide, etc.

as salinger said on the dust jacket of 's:ai',
[buddy]: 'my collaborator and alter-ego.'

that saliner goes so far as ascribing 'teddy' and 'the
catcher' to the pen of buddy gets a little too cute
for me, since it is only with 'raise high' he gives us
buddy as a story-teller.
