Re: a political (and spiritual) being

Daniel,

Can you really believe I pose any threat at all to the "Church standing?"
That's cute, but hopelessly naive.

And, as if Marx and Lenin weren't enough, now you cite Trotsky. You have me
wrong. But I think I know why, because you then write:

"I use Trotsky, not because I associate him with you but he like you lived in
the fable free Omlor world..." and a moment later, about Marx and Lenin,
"they too lived in the Omlor world free of Fairies..."

Dear sweet, Daniel. If you really believe that Marx, Lenin, or Trotsky lived
in a fable free world (or even a faith-in-fairies free world), then you have
either not read them or simply missed all those old fables and fairies they
relied on so heavily.

You ask me about being threatened.

Well, this is a good question. Earlier you asked me about fairness. And
yes, this too is a relevant question. Let's combine the two.

When I think of threats and fairness, naturally, I think immediately of John
Ashcroft.

Now I might want to say, here, "John Ashcroft is a deranged, hypocritical,
bible-thumping, drug-crazed, sexually repressed worm...."

But I wouldn't. Because that would be unfair...

To worms everywhere.

So I must deal with the many threats he poses as best as I can in my own
little way, by calling attention to them whenever possible, by discussing them
with my friends and students and golf partners and fellow listservers, and by
continually calling loudly for his public crucifixion.

I know none of that will do much good, that there really is no defense
against his ilk except time and old age and slow, painful death. But at the moment,
it's all I have.

Seriously, Daniel, I am not bluffing. I have no cards. I'm not playing
poker. I am simply content with my days and nights. My world is good. I'm sorry
you see reason to rail against it, but that's fine, too. Fortunately, you
have no way to make any real difference in it.

And no, this day is certainly not an anomaly. They are almost all like this.

Bye for now,

--John
