I don't know -- I think I don't see him as looking for anything, not
sainthood, not purpose, not meaning, not even his brother. He just
doesn't like seeing innocence being lost and wants to do something to
prevent it. I don't see him burdened with a sense of his own
unhappiness and wanting relief. I don't see him as being that self
conscious, usually, although this does come to the surface at times.

But, like I said, you've given me something to reconsider next time I
read Catcher.
