Re: not playing so nice

I know, Scottie.

And you're right.

Why bother trying? It's more fun not to. Easier, too.

Of course, that little gesture, too, is a rhetorical one and is also very
much an expression of desire and a move for a certain sort of power (the "I am
wise and therefore know that none of this matters -- I am beyond all this and
therefore don't have to do anything but carp from the sidelines" move).

Of course I know none of this matters. We're just playing. It is completely
silly. But every now and then, for some of us, it's just as much fun as "an
enjoyable night on the town."

It's recreational Scottie (it has to be in such a forum), so why the need to
point out its lack of utility? I hit a little ball, walk after it, and when I
finally get to it, hit it again. Of course Benjy was right -- that makes no
sense. Nor does hitting a yellow ball back and forth across a net or a bunch
a pituitary cases stuffing a ball through a hoop -- nor, especially, does it
make all that much sense for a bunch of geeked-up weirdos who are socially
maladjusted, have too much time on their hands, and any number of neuroses and
personal problems of their own, to sit in front of a machine discussing the
writings of an author who refuses to write (or at least to let his writing be
seen). But here we are, including you. So the meta-commentary, voiced as if it is
coming from outside the circle, is really just your particular choice of pose
in the final pose-down for the judges, and I suspect that by now everyone
knows that, too.

But thanks for the inevitable contribution.
