I want to clarify that my "housekeeping" note was not at all directed at
people who write long messages, and I truly did not wish to stifle
anyone's comments.

Rather, it was directed at people who don't bother to cut away the
tatters and bits of prior messages to which they are replying. For
instance, I had to spend a moment deleting dozens of prior lines before
replying to the part of your message that triggered this.

But the brief time spent means that my message won't bounce for being
too long -- and people might even read what I am saying.

Anyway, apologies are not accepted! Post away. That's why we have
rented this beach house -- or, as Scottie best described it, this
"preposterous caravan."
