I have never lambasted Aschroft for "alleged shit." If anything, Ashcroft's
problem is that he can't smell his own.

We're all full of shit, Daniel, and no matter how often you try and get rid
of it, the desire to remove it from the world only leads to a bunch of
delusional crusaders engaged in self-punishing acts of repression.

It's there. It happens (as they say). And it situates itself as a very
useful and necessary and even delightful counterpart to the dangerous intellectual
and ethical denial that would seek to erase it as excess. Shit is the
supplement to reason, Daniel, and if you get rid of one you'll get rid of the other
as well.

Scottie might have a few words on your desire to banish shit.
