Yesterday off-list, Daniel sent me a marvellous excerpt
from Tolkien as a side-bar to my obsession with icebergs.
And now Michael, prompted by Bessie's medicine cupboard
& living room, invites us to offer our own lists.
Which is it to be? The curlicued, porticoed, pillared, puffed,
painted & powdered Pavilion - or the silent, gleaming hill of ice?
    Scottie B.

Scottie B. (Scottie Bar-bari), I am now picturing northerness and you the
koalbiter leaning over the hearth wrapped in a leather jerkin and hairy
sheep's skin, grease matting your hair, your hands waiving casting shadows
in the far corners of the long house, you holding imaginary boulders over
your head ready to roll them down on those legionaries in lines like bowling
pins. I think that was how the game of bowling was invented.
