Sorry to keep rattling on about Visconti.
But it occurs to me that when I talk about
The Leopard (1963) & Death in Venice (1971)
I'm alluding to films most of you lot would only
ever have seen - if at all - in art houses specialising
in ancient classics.
But in my mind, they glow like gems acquired only
yesterday. Still. Forty, even thirty years ago.
My God, when I was in my 40s (not to mention my teens)
that would have seemed as remote as the early Talkies.
