Hi Jim,

No, I certainly was never arguing any point at all concerning the real
history of the trial or about the relationship between the movie and the history. I
was just talking about the characters in the play and who reminded me of whom
around here. And I would never set out to defend the movie as history, that's
for sure. It was cheesy melodrama at best, with some mildly entertaining
performances by Tracy and March and Gene Kelly and it gave us one of Samantha's
future husbands (apparently the real punishment for teaching evolution in such
a heathen fashion is having to marry a witch, albeit a beautiful blonde with a
sexy brunette cousin. And your mother-in-law then tries weekly to destroy
your life).

Oh, and according to the website, by the way, not only is the Earth only
thousands of years old, but dinosaurs and people were made the same week (and yes,
the site insists that it was a real week, with 24 hour days which were
designed to "serve as a model" for our own calendar and work week). So, apparently,
dinosaurs and people lived together for quite some time.

Now, I don't know whether the people really had baby elephant vacuum cleaners
and little cars that they moved with their feet. But I guess they could
have. Man, getting knocked down by your brontosaurus every time you come home
from work must have gotten to be a drag.

All the best,

--John (who really loves reading the pages on this website and will happily
cite more gems if anyone wants)
