A Glass-ic moment

Hi all,

At the beginning of classes today, I learned that I had the daughter of a
colleague enrolled in both of my courses. Her father teaches in our Philosophy
department. The girl is beginning her first full year of college today. She is
thirteen years old.

She was the only person in either of my Lit. sections who had already read
both Crime and Punishment and Love in the Time of Cholera.

Before class, I asked her if all this was a bit strange for her. Very
softly, she said no, that she had sat in on a course last year (when she was 12). I
asked her which course and she answered, "Advanced Japanese."

It should be an interesting semester.
