Good freaking lord, Daniel, if I were drinking milk it would have come
up through my nose...
Jim

That is the standard military compliment for a bureaucrat. We were handed a
little card in preparation for an inspection today and I was thinking about
Kafka's watchman and when I was 17 I was memorizing the 11 general orders
and good thing Kafka's watchman wasn't in the US. He would have been court
marshaled or at least gone up to Mast before the old man. I remember a
story about a young marine Lieutenant who wanted to check his platoon who
were standing watch on the perimeter and so he walked around and came up to
a position out of the dark. The young sentry challenged him, he ignored the
challenge and climbed over the eight foot high fence the young sentry
ordered him to halt several times but he didn't, when the dust settled the
young marine had the LT subdued in the dirt. Now if it were the army or the
air force the young troop would have been punished but not the corps, the
young marine was awarded a meritorious service medal and the young LT
pinning it on was very proud and his pride eased the pain of his bruises,
cuts, and casted arm.
