Yelling "digression" is always good and legal here.  Those of us who get
the reference will laugh.  Those of us who don't recognize it will
(patiently, we hope) privately fill in the people who don't understand.

Sometimes it's hard for us who have a longer sense of continuity to
remember that there are always people coming and going, and that this must
be mystifying to someone who just (proverbially) walks in.

I guess that these current threads are really sensible in the context of
the list as a community -- points here and there in these recent threads
have come up previously in large or small discussions.  If you're
