Hello, I did not see the Star Wars movie, yet interestingly enough I happened to read an article (editorial?) in the magazine U. S. News and World Report which said almost the exact same thing as Colin, namely that many of the characters were based on flimsy, and ofter derogatory, ethnic stereotypes. My recollection was that the author of the article found this disturbing and was very critical of Mr. Lucas. Paul, it seems that you have the found the key to a successful marriage (well, aside from taking your wife on lovely vacations, that is), namely Mutual Salinger Incompatability. I have had similar experiences, my wife could not finish more than a few pages of The Catcher in the Rye, or any story other than Down at the Dinghy, which, since it stars my five year old boy, was a BIG hit. I sometimes wonder if the Seymour/Muriel effect is as uncommon as all that, and I sometime worry that, just the oppositely, my youthful infatuation with Seymour led me into this type of oddly romanticized marriage, but I leave that for Scotty to explain to me (please!, though perhaps not in public). As to your experience describing Seymour, I think that if I would start describing the goings on of my bananafish friends, my wife would ask me if I was talking about some book I'd just read. Just for the record, I did have to read quite a few posts before I was able to write this one, though I would appreciate some help from Jim or Anna in telling me just exactly it means. all the best, Mattis
