There are quite a few incidences of this in Salinger's writing, just off the top of my head I can remember Mrs Aigletinger, Holden Caulfield's school teacher, who appears in the short story `The Inverted Forest', a fellow contestant on `It's A Wise Child' whose surname is Caulfield ... there's many more, we discussed this not that long ago. I think that rather than being related, the characters exhibit in embryo Salinger's tendency towards turning isolated texts into components of a larger master text - what he did with all the Glass stories in the end.
