Good lord, Scottie, I'm agreeing with you here :)

To me, it's the difference between a victim (or child) mentality (one in 
which what we get is the result of what is given to us) and the adult 
mentality -- what we get is the result of what we have done.  The same types 
of things happen to both people, but there's a way out of suffering only for 
one...
