I've been exchanging letters with an elderly gentleman who read a newspaper
interview of mine (long story) which mentioned that I'm a fan of F Scott
Fitzgerald. He has sent lots of long, rather loping letters of admiration
(sending me a copy of his Gatsby first edition cover and revealing that he
was for 20 years a penfriend of Matthew Bruccoli) - why is it that my
writing is so much more exciting than me? Why does this virago lodged
inside my pen attract, provoke, and fascinate so much more than I do? It's
like speaking Clark Kent but being heard as Superman.
I guess my conjecture here is that in *real* life Scottie is just a mild
mannered unregarded man who wouldn't harm a fly (:
