I'm old enough to remember the smug taunts of the high minded
when a failed haberdasher & sometime stooge of Boss Prendergast,
fell, by an unfortunate turn of events, into the same job.
And apropos the free world, one of my dinner companions
last Sunday evening held us enthralled as he described
the Kafkaesque bureaucratic machinery a Canadian must
manipulate before he gains slavering access to even one tiny
bottle of hooch. I think Paul's Scotch-befuddled brain must
have misplaced one of the passwords. That would explain
his sour irony about freedom. (Preserved, thank God, for
the rest of us - not by a deceitful idiot but a senile dement.)
