Oh, no, PK. You've got it all wrong. Now, I'm an authority on this song,
as I played in the pit band for our high school musicals and had the
opportunity to hear it many times. The real words are:

Oh friends, we've got trouble,
Right here in River City,
With a capital "T",
And that rhymes with "P",
And that stands for "Paul".

Right, then. (I couldn't resist. Sorry, PK.)

DeDaumier-Smith's cigarettes in his pocket are something I've never
considered before, and frankly it fascinates me. (When you're on the wagon,
you tend to pay particular attention to precisely which way it rolls.) Now,
thinking back to my former smoking days (sigh), I recall a cigarette butt
stuffed in a pocket or two. The reason was typically that I didn't want
anyone to come across a stray butt and put two and two together and figured
out that I was sneaking a smoke. No physical traces of my sins...

It's a thought anyway. Exactly like the suggestion of Crystal's mother.
(Welcome to the list, Crystal.) So perhaps there's a connection between
DeDaumier-Smith's lies and his need to conceal them. I guess I need to read
the story again.

The other reason was that I didn't have any place to put it and my
tree-hugging ways wouldn't allow me to litter. So I'd hold on to it until I
could put the ugly in its place.

Cripes. I'd kill for a smoke right now. Enough.

Regards,
Cecilia.
(Who is snowed in tonight and should be doing a thousand other things, but
isn't.)
