Dear buyer-of-horses, and all fish at sea,

Thank you (singular) for the exposition of Woodie Guthrie, who happens to be
a great favorite of mine. [Brief aside: For any Woodie Guthrie fans who
are out there, there's a band called Wilco fronted by a guy named Billy
Bragg who took the last songs that Guthrie wrote and put them to music just
this year. They've done a remarkable job with modernizing the music--
reminds me of Phish more than anything else-- yet you know as you listen to
it that it's absolutely Woodie Guthrie. Amazing stuff. The album is
Mermaid Avenue, in two volumes, and it's worth looking up.]

Okay, that was more than a brief aside. Sorry.

Mattis's Woodie Guthrie story arose, for those who are wondering, from a
statement of mine that I like to read about various religions because I
continually find a core of truth in all of them that helps me to understand
my own better. It's like this: I think that there's basically only one
tune, but everyone has their own variation upon it. If you reject one, you
reject all. Ergo, Woodie's "All, or None."

Granted some of the variations are not the kind of music that I like to
hear, but I think that everyone has their own tastes. I'm sure that there's
more than one bananafish who is wholly uninterested in Wilco.

Regards,
Cecilia.
