Sean,
One of my all-time favourite New Yorker cartoons
depicts two intrepid explorers wearing sola topis &
full tropical gear. One of them has fallen into quick sands
& is now nearly engulfed, leaving only head & hat still
visible. He appeals nervously to his companion:
'By George, Caruthers, I've half a mind to struggle.'
I'm tempted to make the same appeal to yourself -
evidently the one lone centre of cool sanity in this
strangling morass of conformist, liberal opinion.
