Hello, list. A couple of fast matters here....

First, what with it being the end of the year, a time to traditionally
look back and reflect, I want to thank everyone here -- lurkers and
otherwise -- for making this list the occasionally lively place it is.
We can put up infinite numbers of discussion lists, but without
passionate readers and writers, lists don't go very far. This list is
a small but vital part of my life, and it pleases me when things here
are rolling along. I humbly thank all of you who participate. I've
learned a lot from the list, I've met some wonderful people, and I've
even formed some lasting friendships. May you all enjoy healthy and
harmonious New Years as the clock winds down on 2000 A.D.

Second, someone posted a notice in the last few months about a web
site she maintains about Catcher. It accomplished what I had only
hoped to do some day at the "roughdraft.org" web site, which is that
it presents photographs of New York City that illustrate some of what
Holden Caulfield might have seen during his journeys. Some of the
pictures were vintage, some contemporary. Is there anyone (including,
if I'm lucky, the author of the page!) who can point me there? I'd
like to include a link to it from the "bananafish" home page, but I
have utterly no recollection of keywords from the message that
announced it, so I throw myself at the feet of the collective memory
of this list, hoping someone will remember and pass along the address.
I would greatly appreciate it.

Finally, please know that I look forward to the continuing growth and
health of the bananafish "pond," and I hope you will collectively
continue to add to the discussions, feuds, flirtations, lectures, and
gentle storytelling that happens on the list. May the year 2001 be
good to all of us, I devoutly and publicly wish.

Cheers and thanks to everyone!
