sorry jim, you're right--we aren't really disagreeing. Some of
Salinger's early work does have merit and it seems a shame to obscure
it, and you're dead on with my reading of Hapworth too...it's a bitch
to slog through but not without its own peculiar rewards...the only
disagreement is in my poor reading of your original
post...sorry...and thanks, will
