Yes, there is a real US based magician currently alive named David Copperfield,
but he's not to be confused with the David Copperfield written about by Charles
Dickens, esp. since Dickens wrote that character well over 100 years ago.
Holden is making reference to Dickens' DC by saying that he's going to tell us
his story without making it a long and detailed autobiography such as the one
Dickens wrote (DC). Holden just tells his readers about the events "that got me
here," wherever "here" is.
