It doesn't take a "knee jerk" reaction to stand against racist
language--just intelligence and respect.

The fact that some want to generalize and put people down is, in my
opinion, an indicator of being vulgar.

The intention of someone is not the whole meaning when remarks are
uttered in a public forum. How remarks are received is part of the
way we create meaning in communication. That's why many humans are
learning that racist language is hurtful and wrong, no matter how
it's intended.

In America, our educators have been doing a good job to teach younger
generations how to overcome racism and ethnic slurs with
understanding, knowledge and respect for our diversity.

I feel sad for folks who think they can win respect with insults and
put downs. I will always stand up to such bullies with the knowledge,
heart and soul of my best beliefs.

I think Salinger stands with me. Read DATD or know that his fiction
insightfully reaches into several world religions to help the author
create his work. In Salinger's work, you don't hear the kind of
"humor" or "bad taste" in language that you've been listening to on
this list.
