Points generally well-taken. I'm afraid this discussion is rather difficult
to catch up on after a week away, besides which Cecilia et al. have offered
fine responses. I don't know much about *Beowulf* beyond the basics, but I
think the general argument that times have changed and that modern readers
experience the poem in a different context with (however slightly) different
results, stands.
