Plath and Salinger, yahhhh! My two absolute favorites. Yes, I see a lot of similarities between Plath and Salinger. Salinger seems to have a much lighter wit and overall voice, Plath is much darker, but they both convey the same general mood, the disgust and hopelessness and confusion, just like you said. I feel sometimes if Plath (or Esther, her alter ego in the novel) had the Glass family, she wouldn't feel so lost and alienated and angry. And if Seymour didn't have his family he would have been much darker. Seymour and Plath both committed suicide... I can probably think of more similarities with more time and thought... READ THE BELL JAR! lagusta
