this first piece is primarily to brendan:
thank you thank you thank you for your 'attack on blind faith'. you've pretty
much expressed my disgust as to persons who believe they have the right to
impose their views on morals and right/wrong on other people...and agreed,
there are numerous inconsistencies in the bible, as well as even more
inconsistencies between the bible and the faith that goes under its direction.
selective obedience for convenience's sake never struck me as a vital aspect
of any set of beliefs...
i know this entire letter is entirely off the topic and i apologize...
we've evolved, as a species, past the necessity to procreate as a life
function, yes? i mean, certainly we do not base, as animals do, our selection
of a mate on what kind of offspring we will produce---oftentimes we do not
chose to procreate at all. we look to other factors, [ie intellect,
personality, tastes, spirituality, etc] as grounds for deciding whom we wish
to spend our lives with. why then do we immediately eliminate half of
humanity simply because they do or do not share our anatomical structure?
speaking from the point of a person who is attracted to people, in general,
when they have characteristics that i admire/respect/appreciate intellectually
i honestly don't know the answer to this. is it because we are not so far
removed from our animal instincts and desires as we'd like to think?
i'm sorry, i just haven't been on for a while and felt it would be appropriate
for me to go ahead, since i had not yet had the chance to beat this dead
horse, and put in my two cents.
