In a message dated 97-12-17 14:18:15 EST, you write:

<< I could say that Seymour, having
this insight into non-judgmental love went upstairs to make love to Muriel,
not to kill himself. It was only after he realized that he could never
actually live up to his own ideal, that he reacted to his own reaction
to the foot-starer, when he took out the gun. I think, though, that this
is too much of a reach. >>

Nothing is too much of a stretch if its just discussion and not given as
factual, and I think this hypothesis is quite possible. Thanks for
enlightening me, as I'd never thought of Bananafish in this way. <pat on the
back> If the above were true, then I would ask the question what was the
significance of this one event so that Seymour would do such a rash thing?
I'm sure he had thought of this before, relaized this before, etc. Was it
just the straw that broke the camel's back? (sorry for the cliche, I hate
'em) Why was Seymour carrying the gun anyway? Was his suicide premeditated,
or was he carrying the gun for some other reason? This topic has probably
already been discussed. If it has, forgive me.
