Holden as a Christ Figure

I was looking through my old notebook from Senior Year English
class in high School and I came across something strange.  My teacher
had provoked a discussion about Holden as a Christ figure.  I went to 
a Catholic school and it was around Christmas time when I had studied 
Catcher for the fourth time.  He suggested that Holden wanted to be like 
Christ by choosing as a career a catcher in a rye field.  Christ on the 
cross held his arms out as would Holden to catch the falling children 
in the field.  Does anyone see the similarity between the two?
